Tusk Pushes for New Vote to Counter Nawrocki’s Crypto Law Rejection

Poland is witnessing a growing political clash as Prime Minister Donald Tusk seeks yet another parliamentary vote to overturn President Karol Nawrocki’s repeated vetoes of a bill intended to regulate the nation’s crypto-assets market. Tusk has expressed his intention to request Sejm Speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty to bring the issue back to the lawmakers’ agenda. President Nawrocki has consistently vetoed the legislation, rejecting it in December 2025, February 2026, and again in June, citing unresolved objections raised by his office during its drafting.

Nawrocki’s primary criticism of the bill is the government’s disproportionate focus on cryptocurrency matters rather than addressing the legislation’s inherent flaws. The president has indicated his readiness to sign the bill if these deficiencies are adequately corrected. This disagreement has escalated tensions between the president and Prime Minister Tusk, who has further fueled the controversy by linking the crypto-assets debate to allegations surrounding individuals and media entities associated with the former ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party.

Tusk has alleged that the situation hints at a potentially orchestrated network, suggesting financial transactions between the cryptocurrency sector, media linked to PiS, and top political figures. Among the concerns raised, he pointed to the cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto, describing the developments as increasingly worrisome. Tusk emphasized that the government would refrain from interfering in any ongoing police or prosecutorial inquiries but maintained that the parliament should reconsider the president’s veto.

The renewed attempt by Tusk sets the stage for another confrontation over the crypto-assets legislation between the executive and legislative branches. Despite Tusk’s push, President Nawrocki stands firm on his stance that the proposed regulations require substantial corrections before he would consider endorsing them. As the debate continues, the outcome will likely have significant implications for Poland’s approach to regulating the burgeoning cryptocurrency market.
