Türkiye has expressed a continued willingness to serve as the host for another round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. This offer was highlighted by Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov during an event in Kazan, where he mentioned that Turkish authorities have reiterated their readiness to facilitate discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The statement came after conversations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Ushakov pointed out that recent drone attacks by Ukraine on Russian soil have impeded the likelihood of a face-to-face meeting between President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Despite these challenges, Türkiye has maintained open lines of communication with both Moscow and Kyiv since the war began. Ankara previously played a critical role by hosting negotiations in Istanbul, which marked a significant, albeit temporary, diplomatic effort towards dialogue between the conflicting parties.
Turkish officials have consistently emphasized the importance of de-escalation and the pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the conflict through ongoing diplomatic efforts. Recent interactions at high levels have concentrated on finding ways to bring an end to the war and lessen regional tensions. Türkiye’s balanced diplomatic approach has positioned it as a key mediator advocating for renewed negotiations and a diplomatic solution.
In addition to Türkiye’s involvement, Ushakov mentioned that Russia is also anticipating updates from the United States following discussions at the recent G7 summit. According to him, senior American representatives are expected to visit Russia soon, which could further influence the situation. As the conflict continues to impact international politics and security, Türkiye remains committed to facilitating dialogue and seeking a peaceful resolution.
