As of now, the Netherlands has yet to finalize its specific involvement in these exercises. The extent of its contribution will be determined after operational requests are received from France and the United Kingdom, who are at the helm of the multinational force. This collaborative effort underlines the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting Ukraine in partnership with other European nations.
In another collaborative endeavor, the Netherlands has allied with Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Sweden, and several other European countries in a joint initiative with Ukraine to develop a new European air defense system. This initiative seeks to create a more cost-effective and efficient missile defense technology aimed at safeguarding both Ukrainian and European airspace. The project reflects a strategic move to enhance European self-reliance in defense capabilities.
Prime Minister Jetten noted that the initial components of this new air defense system could be operational within a year, with more advanced features anticipated within 18 months. The initiative is designed to decrease Europe’s dependency on U.S.-manufactured Patriot missile systems, which currently serve as Ukraine’s primary defense against Russia’s frequent ballistic missile strikes.
The development and production of the new missile systems will be a collaborative effort among European defense companies from the participating countries.
