At the fourth Polish-German Economic Forum in Warsaw, Poland’s Finance Minister Andrzej Domański firmly stated that Poland will not return to normal economic relations with Russia, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing energy security and economic independence in Europe. His remarks come in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, which has significantly altered the geopolitical landscape and prompted European nations to reconsider their energy dependencies.

Before the invasion, Germany and several other European countries heavily relied on Russian natural gas and other energy supplies. In response to the conflict, these nations have worked to reduce their dependence on Russian energy to curtail Moscow’s revenue streams. Despite these efforts, some political factions in Germany have been advocating for a restoration of ties with Russia, arguing for access to cheaper energy imports.

Domański, however, rejected such proposals, making it clear that Poland does not support a return to previous economic ties with Moscow. He urged European countries to learn from past experiences and maintain a firm stance against Russia, stressing the importance of economic resilience and energy independence.

In addition to discussing Poland’s stance on Russia, Domański highlighted the significance of Polish-German cooperation in tackling geopolitical, technological, and strategic challenges. He called for measures to bolster Europe’s economy, such as reducing unnecessary bureaucracy, fostering competitive energy markets, and encouraging technological advancement while pursuing responsible deregulation.

The finance minister underscored that economic growth must be balanced with security considerations, suggesting that a cautious approach to relations with Russia is necessary for Europe’s long-term stability. Domański’s statements reflect Poland’s commitment to strengthening its economic and energy policies in collaboration with other European nations to ensure a competitive and secure future.
