Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has raised concerns about potential challenges in maintaining the nation’s drone supplies during the upcoming winter months. These concerns stem from a significant budget shortfall that Ukraine is currently facing, amounting to approximately $27 billion. A large portion of this deficit is tied to defense spending, which includes critical areas such as the production of drones and missiles.
Zelensky emphasized that around one-third of this budget gap may need to be allocated specifically for drone requirements from January to March. He warned that any delays in ordering and financing drones in the months of October and November could result in supply issues at the beginning of the next year, particularly in January and February.
In an effort to address these financial challenges, Ukraine has engaged in discussions with several international entities, including the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. Additionally, businesses and financial institutions have been involved in these talks. Zelensky noted that international partners have acknowledged the necessity to assist in closing Ukraine’s funding gap and supporting its domestic drone and missile production.
Furthermore, Ukraine is actively seeking to bolster its funding through agreements with international partners aimed at enhancing drone collaboration. This initiative is focused on sharing Ukraine’s expertise with unmanned systems while also expanding joint production and technological cooperation.
